One of Jim Hughes’ top priorities is continuing to revitalize our economy and he is working hard everyday to keep and create good paying jobs in our area. Jim Hughes is committed to lowering the tax burden on working Ohioans, recently helping to pass the largest income tax cut in Ohio history and significant property tax relief for senior citizens. In the Senate, Jim Hughes will keep fighting for common sense economic development initiatives to make our area attractive to employers and to stimulate job growth in our communities.

Improving Education
In order to compete in today’s global economy, our children must receive a world class education that gives them the tools they need to succeed. Jim Hughes is working tirelessly to improve our children’s education by providing record funding for our schools, raising educational standards, and refocusing attention on core curriculum. In the Senate, Jim Hughes will keep fighting to ensure that our schools receive their fair share of state support and that our children are given the best possible chance for success.

Protecting our Children
With his experience as criminal prosecutor, Jim Hughes has been a proven leader in the fight against violence in our communities. Hughes has fought successfully to impose tougher penalties on sex predators to keep them off the streets and away from our children. He is committed to working with law enforcement to give them the tools they need to protect our kids from new threats, like internet predators.

Making College More Affordable
Rising tuition rates are threatening to put college out of reach for many Ohio families. A proud graduate of The Ohio State University, Hughes is working to make higher education more affordable. He recently voted to freeze tuition rates at all state colleges and universities and supported investing more state dollars in scholarships and grants that will help Ohio students gain the skills necessary to meet the challenges of a changing economy.
